Official reports on railway repair

YOUNGSTOWN -- Repairs to a 156-foot portion of the Central Columbiana and Pennsylvania Railway that sustained damage last week should be completed today, said railway superintendent Bud Gane.
He said the cost of damage was estimated at about $14,000 and would be covered by insurance.
The railway was damaged last Thursday when a vehicle became stuck on the tracks on Southern Boulevard near LaBelle Avenue on the city's South Side.
The driver of the vehicle, Ryan T. Casey, 20, of Badal Road in Lowellville, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. He told police that he crashed into a guardrail when a man tried to get into his car at the railroad crossing. Casey has pleaded no contest to the charge and will be sentenced in March.
Gane said the damage caused no substantial delays in rail traffic.
