New 'No F' plan gets board's OK

SHARON, Pa. -- The school board has passed a final version of an academic policy that could prevent pupils from participating in sports and nongraded extracurricular activities if they have failing grades.
It's not as tough as the first "No F" policy proposed by School Director Rick Mancino two years ago.
"I'm happy with it," Mancino said after Tuesday's vote on the policy. "I think it's good for our school" and shows that academics come first, he added.
The policy, which affects grades seven through 12, contains a tutoring component that will be mandatory for pupils with failing grades but also open to any pupil desiring extra help.
