YOUNGSTOWN -- The Chaney High basketball team had revenge in mind Tuesday.
The Cowboys used a 19-11 points advantage in the third quarter to rally past host Wilson 59-51, avenging a Jan. 5 loss to the Redmen.
Senior Matt Lobaugh scored a career-high 17 points and added eight rebounds, four assists and three steals for the Cowboys (5-8, 2-3 City Series).
"Our intensity was there throughout the game," Lobaugh said.
Cowboy senior Roy Austin scored 10 of his 15 points in the first half to give Chaney a 23-22 halftime lead.
Wilson senior Ellis Moody hit the third of his four 3-pointers in the opening minute of the third quarter to give the Redmen (5-7, 2-2) a 25-24 lead.
It was their last advantage of the night.
Austin, who had 14 rebounds, started an 8-0 run that gave the Cowboys a 32-25 lead. The Redmen had eight turnovers in the third quarter.
Wilson closed to within 34-32, but Jason Bowlen hit two big baskets as the Cowboys led 42-33 at the end of three.
Chaney went on an 8-3 run to open the fourth quarter.
"We forced turnovers and kept ours down, controlled the boards and had strong play from our bench," Chaney coach Jim Stickel said.
Cowboys forward Keilen Dykes missed the game with an illness, forcing Austin to play a bigger role.
"I knew I had to be much more aggressive inside," Austin said.
Wilson had 22 turnovers to Chaney's 10, and Wilson was out-rebounded 45-33.
Moody led Wilson with 16 points and seven rebounds, and Randall Poindexter added 12 points.
"Chaney out-hustled and out-played us," Wilson coach Mark Cherol said. "They never let up on us defensively. We had some good looks at the basket [but] were very tentative on offense."
