Man flees on foot after car chase

AUSTINTOWN -- Police are looking for a man who led them on a high-speed chase through streets in Youngstown as well as on state Route 11 and Interstate 680 early Saturday.
The man is suspected of stealing several tobacco products from Giant Eagle on Mahoning Avenue.
Store employees said the man came to a register with the products about 5:45 a.m. and said he had to go to his car so he could get a check. The man then dropped a pack of cigarettes and ran from the store.
Store employees said the man later returned to the store looking for his jacket, which was in a cart. Police arrived at the store as the man was getting into his car to leave. The man drove east on Mahoning Avenue and police tried to pull the man over.
He continued to drive onto state Route 11 and Interstate 680 before exiting to Meridian Road. The chase continued as the man drove to Salt Springs Road, Tyrell Street and Kincaid Road, where he lost control and struck a piece of concrete. The man then got out and ran through a wooded area.
A police car struck the car after the man had fled. There were no injuries. The man could not be found.
Police found 10 cigars in the car.
Police also are investigating theft of DVDs and pants from Kmart on Mahoning Avenue, as well as computer games from Hollywood Video on Mahoning Avenue.
