YOUNGSTOWN -- A 20-year-old West Side resident was arrested on charges of criminal damaging, discharge of a firearm within city limits and violating a civil protection order after a 20-gauge shotgun was fired at a neighbor's home after a fight with his live-in girlfriend. The man, of Randolph Street, was arrested at the Waverly Avenue home of a friend and the shotgun was discovered in the man's Randolph Street back yard.
Woman admits stabbing
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 34-year-old South Side woman faces a felonious assault charge after admitting stabbing her live-in boyfriend in the arm with a steak knife, police reports show. The woman said she and the 39-year-old man were arguing about the woman's 18-year-old daughter about 8:30 p.m. Monday in their Williams Street home. The woman said her boyfriend choked her and punched her in the cheek when she grabbed the knife and stabbed him in the left biceps. He was treated at Northside Medical Center.
Arrested after chase
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 43-year-old man was arrested on the East Side after a high-speed police chase.
Officers first saw the 1992 Oldsmobile in front of a known drug house on North Garland Avenue about 2 p.m. Sunday. The driver left the house, ran a stop sign at Springdale Avenue and drove at high speed past the officers' cruiser, weaving in and out of both lanes. The driver then ran two more stop signs with police chasing him before running off the road into a Berkley Avenue driveway, hitting a parked 2002 Mitsubishi. The driver then ran into the back yard of the Berkley home before officers apprehended him.
Police found crack cocaine in his pants and coat pocket and discovered that the Oldsmobile was stolen. The man, of North Fruit Street, faces charges of receiving stolen property, drug abuse cocaine, fleeing and eluding, failure to stop after an accident and driving under suspension and was issued several traffic citations.
Officials suspect arson
YOUNGSTOWN -- City fire officials said they suspect arson in two fires at the same East Side house. Firefighters were first called to 1534 Ravine Road about 4:50 p.m. Monday when a fire that started the kitchen caused about $10,000 damage, said Battalion Chief James Flynn. A second fire, about 7 p.m., caused $20,000 damage and started in a living room.

NEW SPRINGFIELD -- Springfield Township Trustee Shirley Heck is announcing that she maintains regular office hours every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the township office building on South Range Road.
Vandalism, violence
COITSVILLE -- An Austintown woman faces charges of domestic violence and criminal damaging after her former boyfriend was hit in the head with a snow shovel, police reports show. The woman had gone to the man's Johnson Road home about 8:45 p.m. Monday and argued with him and his girlfriend before vandalizing his car with the shovel and then hitting him with it and punching him several times.
3 face drug charges
BOARDMAN -- Township police made three arrests on charges of possession of drugs during three traffic stops over the holiday weekend. A 19-year-old Salem man was charged with misdemeanor possession of drugs Friday after five tablets of an unknown drug were found in the glove box of his car in front of Southern Park Mall, police said. Police said they stopped a 20-year-old township man Saturday on the 300 block of Boardman-Canfield Road and found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in his car. He was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and not having a driver's license. Also Saturday, a 21-year-old Youngstown man was stopped at U.S. Route 224 and Southern Boulevard by police, who say they found drug paraphernalia, prescription-strength pain pills and marijuana. He was charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
