CANFIELD Cancer society seeks youths for camp

CANFIELD -- The American Cancer Society is inviting youths who are being treated for cancer, or are in remission, to register for the 2002 Camp Friendship this summer.
Last year, 220 campers and volunteers participated in Camp Friendship programs, including four from Mahoning County, two from Trumbull County, and one from Columbiana County, Al Stabilito, ACS communications director, said.
At Camp Friendship, cancer survivors, ages 7 to 15, participate in traditional camp activities. Volunteer physicians, oncology nurses, dietitians and counselors assist the campers with their special medical personal needs.
ACS is also looking for volunteer camp counselor who are 21 years of age or older.
Being a cancer survivor is a plus, but not necessary. Also needed are volunteer oncology physicians, registered nurses and art and music therapists.
Details: Camp Friendship North, located at the Centerville Mills YMCA Camp in Bainbridge Township, Ohio, will be June 9-15; and Camp Friendship South, at Joy Outdoor Education Center in Clarksville, Ohio, will be July 28-Aug. 3.
Tuition costs are entirely paid by ACS, with the help of individual and group donations.
The Youngstown Police Department and Giant Eagle LPGA Classic are two area sponsors.
