MERCER COUNTY Family wins honors at farm show

Area competitors scored well in a variety of contests at the annual show.
HARRISBURG -- The Ken and Connie Scott family from Shenango Township, Mercer County, took top honors in the Merino division in wool breed sheep competition at the annual Pennsylvania State Farm Show earlier this month.
The Scotts exhibited the Champion Ram, the Reserve Champion Ram, the Champion Ewe and the Reserve Champion Ewe and were also named the Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor of that division.
Other firsts: The Scotts also took first place in the Merino yearling lamb, the Merino fall ram lamb, the Merino spring lamb, the Merino yearling ewe, the Merino fall ewe lamb, the Merino spring ewe lamb, the Merino pair of ram lambs, the Merino pair of ewe lambs, the Merino breeder's young flock, the Merino flock and the Merino pen of lambs classes.
The Scotts also scored well in the Rambouillet sheep division, taking a second place in the fall ram lamb class, a fourth in the yearling ewe class and third, fourth and fifth places in the fall ewe lamb class.
Their sheep were also in the top five finishers in the spring ewe lamb, pair of ewe lambs, breeder's young flock, pen of lambs and flock classes in the Rambouillet division.
Other local winners at the farm show included:
U Alisha Henry of Grove City: second place in the Crossbred junior market swine weight division 2 class.
U Jordan Powell of Hadley: seventh place in the Crossbred junior market swine weight division 10 class.
U Jeremy Barbour of Stoneboro: Champion Middleweight Crossbred junior market steer.
U Mohawk High School: second place in the school demonstration open class category.
U Union High School: seventh place in the school demonstration open class category.
U Christine Benningraff of Bessemer: Champion Dorset Junior Market Lamb in the junior livestock division.
U Abbey Benningraff of Bessemer: 10th place in the Crossbred junior market lamb weight division 9 class.
