MAHONING COUNTY 16 gambling searches conducted
The FBI said the probe into organized crime gambling will continue.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Federal and local law enforcement officials had little to say about 16 searches made Sunday afternoon in Boardman, Struthers and Poland as part of an ongoing probe of organized crime gambling.
The FBI announced the search warrants Sunday afternoon.
The statement revealed the FBI also had served 20 search warrants Jan. 12 in Boardman, Struthers and Campbell.
No one has been indicted or arrested, the FBI said.
The locations that were searched were not revealed.
FBI agents at the Youngstown and Cleveland offices didn't return phone calls.
The statement said the Youngstown Police Department was assisting the FBI in the probe, which is ongoing.
Youngstown police said that only Police Chief Richard Lewis would have knowledge of the investigation. Lewis did not return a call.
Police departments in the communities where the search warrants were served said they had no information on the searches.
The FBI has been conducting an investigation into organized crime and public corruption in the Mahoning Valley since the mid-1990s that has resulted in dozens of convictions.
