PYMATUNING EVENT Absence of snow won't stop fun
JAMESTOWN, Pa. -- The annual event used to be called Snow Fun Days, but the Pymatuning Trail Blazers Snowmobile Club changed it to Winter Fun Days several years ago after Old Man Winter proved to be less than cooperative.
There were some years when the event at the southern end of Pymatuning State Park had to be canceled because there just wasn't any snow.
A change in programming with more of a focus on nonsnow-related activities helped overcome that.
This year's event is set for Feb. 2-3 and will be adjacent to Beach 2 and Shelter 4 off U.S. Route 322 just north of Jamestown.
There is no admission charge and no charge for any activities.
If there's snow, there will be sled riding, guided snowmobile trail rides and free snowmobile rides.
If there's no snow, a children's barrel train ride will replace the sled riding.
Chain saw carving, ice skating, horse- and tractor-drawn hayrides and ice fishing demonstrations will go on, snow or no snow.
There will be dealer displays of new snowmobiles, a used snowmobile corral, crafts and demonstrations by a wood carver.
