BENEFIT Take a gamble on saving some animals



Games of chance will provide entertainment during fund-raising event.
CANFIELD -- Second Chance Animal Rescue, 5655 Silica Road, is sponsoring a night at the races as a fund-raising event to be held from 7 p.m. to midnight Feb. 2 at Theodore's Banquet Center, 1400 N. Canfield-Niles Road, Mineral Ridge.
Planned as entertainment will be horse races, maverick poker, blackjack, roulette and a Chinese auction.
Included in the evening will be a 50/50 drawing, door prizes and refreshments. The cost is $2 at the door, and all proceeds will benefit the shelter.
Debbie Morgan is serving as chairman of the fund-raiser, and Roy R. Reese is the program chairman.
Recently elected: Officers were elected to head the shelter for 2002 during the Jan. 8 meeting. They are Joann Barrows, president; Mary Delino, vice president; Darlene Reese, secretary; and Barbara Mesaros, treasurer.
Others serving on the board of directors are Joanne Curran, Danette Eliseo, Lynda Feichtenbiner, Kerry Komara, Barbara Mesaros, April Prest, Loretta Stas, Roy Reese, Laurie Taylor, Carla Catheline, Suzanne Esposito, Terry Feichtenbiner, Erin Lehaney, Debbie Morgan, Arlia Slaina and Kelly Stevens.
The group: The all-volunteer organization rescued more than 500 animals in the past two years and placed them in responsible homes. All proceeds raised by the group are used to provide spaying and neutering for cats and dogs, complete veterinary care, food, medications, litter and miscellaneous shelter expenses.
