NILES -- A Pratt Street woman accused of not reporting a death will return to court next week.
Yvonne Hafiz, 44, is charged with tampering with evidence, a felony; and failing to report a death and obstructing official business, both misdemeanors.
She is accused of not reporting the death of Robert Abbey of Austintown, who died Saturday in the Pratt Street apartment she shared with William F. Stadler, 43.
Stadler was arrested Saturday.
Police arrested Hafiz Wednesday evening. She is accused of removing items from the apartment.
Police say she and Stadler tried to persuade another man to help them move Abbey's body.
The man reported it to police.
Computer classesoffered to residents
GIRARD -- Girard High School is offering free computer classes to district residents at the school computer lab.
Beginner classes will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays: Feb. 5, 12, 19, 26; March 5, 12, 19, 26; April 9, 16.
Intermediate classes will be 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays : Feb. 4, 11, 25; March 4, 11, 18, 25; April 8, 15, 22.
Internet use classes are from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays: Feb. 4, 25; March 11, 25; April 15.

McDONALD -- The school board awarded these contracts Thursday totaling $6,761,055 for construction of an elementary school and demolition of an old one:
General construction package, which includes demolition of Roosevelt Elementary: Hudson Construction Co., Hermitage, Pa., $4.478 million.
Heating, ventilation and air conditioning: Prout Boiler, Heating & amp; Welding Inc., Youngstown, $1,001,500.
Plumbing: Antenucci Inc., Warren, $320,505.
Fire protection: Fire Foe Corporation, Girard, $94,150;
Electrical: Valley Electrical Construction, Girard, $866,900.
Appeals court upholds$1.6M verdict for family
CLEVELAND -- The 8th District Court of Appeals has unanimously upheld a $1.6 million verdict awarded in 2000 by a Cuyahoga County Common Pleas jury to the widow and three children of a Trumbull County steel worker.
Joseph Cicchillo of Bristolville died in 1998 at age 78 from lung cancer induced by more than 40 years exposure to asbestos pipe insulation manufactured by Pittsburgh Corning Corp., according to court records.
Pittsburgh Corning, partially owned by PPG Industries Inc., made the pipe coverings from 1962 to 1972.
Several other companies named as defendants in the lawsuit settled with the family before the start of a two-week before Judge James J. Sweeney, according to Kelley & amp; Ferraro, the law firm representing the family.
Cicchillo went to work for Republic Steel in Warren in 1951. He retired in 1982 after the manufacturer had become LTV Steel. The suit was filed in October 1998, a month after his death.
Thiel breaks groundfor student housing
GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Thiel College has broken ground for a $3 million student housing project that should be ready for occupancy Aug. 1.
It will be the first new housing on campus in more than 30 years.
Two new housing units and a common support building will be erected on the west end of campus, where two fraternity houses once stood. The support building will house the Thiel Center for American Language and Global Culture for use by international students and the Thiel Center for Excellence in Greek Life for use by Greek organizations on campus.
The housing units will feature 10 four-bedroom apartments.
The college plans to build at least four more similar structures over the next five years.
Parolee and handgun
SHARON, Pa. -- Police said state probation and parole agents found a handgun in the car of a state parolee during a random search of his property Thursday.
The agents found a .380-caliber semiautomatic pistol in the car of Jamal D. Strickland, 28, of Cedar Avenue, police said.
Strickland had been convicted of a felony and, under Pennsylvania law, is barred from owning or using a firearm.
He was arraigned before District Justice James McMahon on a charge of illegal possession of a firearm and taken to Mercer County Jail on $5,000 bond and a parole detainer, police said.
