Lowellville board OKs teachers pact

LOWELLVILLE -- The board of education approved a new teachers contract by a 5-0 vote during a special meeting Wednesday night. The three-year contract, which was approved by the teachers union Monday, averts a strike that had been set for Tuesday.
Superintendent Richard Buchenic said the contract, prorated to Sept. 1, 2001, provides an 11.5 percent pay increase. The contract also includes changes in health insurance, but specifics were not given.
