AVALON INN Dental society sets installation dance

A Salem native is the first female president of the Corydon Palmer Dental Society.
POLAND -- Dr. Kathleen Houk will be installed as president of the Corydon Palmer Dental Society at the group's annual winter dance and installation Saturday at the Avalon Inn & amp; Resort in Howland.
Dr. Houk, a native of Salem, is the first woman to hold the top office in the dental society, which has members in Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties, and is the local component of the Ohio and American Dental associations.
Other officers to be installed are: Dr. Steven Watts, president-elect; Dr. Larry Gessner, vice president; Dr. Michael Moore, secretary; Dr. Thomas Gabriel, treasurer.
New board of trustee members to be installed are: Drs. Pam Barkett, Daniel DeAngelo, Gregory Laderosa, Douglas Styka and Craig Wagley, all from Mahoning County; Drs. Roger Clouse, Seymour Feuer and David Waldman, all from Trumbull County; and Dr. Lee Swearingen from Columbiana County.
The installation ceremony will include recognition of six members who are marking their 50th year in organized dentistry during 2002.
The 50-year honorees are: Dr. Thomas G. Bowser Jr. of Canfield; Dr. John N. Fusco, Howland; Drs. Lewis A. Dilallo and Karl E. Soller, both of Boardman; Dr. Paul J. Jackanich, Austintown; and Dr. Harry Wagman in Florida.
Houk's career: Dr. Houk is a graduate of South Range High School and Ohio State University and earned her dental degree from OSU's College of Dentistry in 1977. Her practice is at 2600 E. Middletown Road.
She has served on the dental society's board of trustees and been a member of the mass disaster, peer review and dental education/SELECT committees.
She was chairman of the long-range strategy and continuing-education committees and has served the society in various other capacities.
She is a member of the OSU Alumni Association and Emmanuel Lutheran Church. She and her husband, George, have two children.
