Woman's body found in river at E. Liverpool

EAST LIVERPOOL -- The county coroner must make a positive identification, but Capt. Norm Curtis of the East Liverpool Police Department believes police have found the body of a missing city woman.
Curtis said the body found Monday on the shore on the East Liverpool side of the Ohio River fits the description of Vera M. Conaway, 73. Conaway, a resident of Riverview Towers, was reported missing from the Broadway Wharf on New Year's Day. He does not believe the cause of death to be suspicious.
Curtis said police detectives searched the river for 45 minutes by boat Tuesday, and found the body about a mile from Broadway Wharf at about 12:45 p.m.
It was the third search of the river by police after a taxi driver reported Conaway missing.
The driver said he dropped Conaway off at the wharf about 8 a.m., and she told him she wanted to spend some time by the river to clear her thoughts. When he returned in an hour as she had instructed, she was missing. Police found her walker at the edge of the boat ramp.
