VILLAGE COUNCIL
LISBON
Gave first reading to an ordinance which will compile all village income tax ordinances into one piece of legislation.
According to Mayor Jeff Snyder, there are several ordinances on the books dealing with the village income tax, which stands at 1.5 percent. The state is requiring that village income tax information be available on the Internet, including various tax forms. Snyder said it would be easier to have all the ordinances combined into one document with updated language. After the new ordinance is approved by Council, it can be placed on the Internet, along with the tax forms, Snyder said.
Accepted the resignation of public works employee Pete Arnold, who resigned for personal reasons.
Adopted a resolution in memory of Lisbon resident R. Lynn Leggett, who died Saturday. Leggett was a longtime member of the volunteer fire department and had served as chief. He also was an active community supporter, with Snyder noting, "We lost a good leader in the community."

SOUTH RANGE
Passed a resolution honoring the district's students and staff for receiving a perfect score on the state's report card system for the third year in a row. Superintendent James Hall said, "I am incredibly proud of everyone. Only 71 districts received excellent scores and only 44 had perfect scores out of Ohio's 612 districts." Board President Alan Wenger echoed Hall's sentiments, "I'm very proud of this accomplishment. This is the most wonderful thing that can happen to a school board," Wenger said.
Elected Wenger to his fourth term as board president. The veteran board member is beginning his 16th year on the board. Fred Schuster will serve as this year's vice president. He is beginning his 12th year as a board member.
Hall took a moment at the meeting to remember his predecessor, Ralph Robinette, who died last week. Robinette had been the district's superintendent for 14 years, retiring in 1986.
LISBON
School Superintendent Charles McShane suggested that the schools again consider seeking funding through the Ohio Schools Facilities Commission for building upgrades. A previous $13 million project approved by the commission failed when local voters two years ago defeated a 2.89-mill levy needed to pay the school district's $2 million share. School board members agreed to meet in special session Thursday at 6 p.m. to discuss the matter further.
LAKEVIEW
Accepted a Holden Jennings grant of $983, written by a Lakeview teacher to help advance student reading skills.
Requested that Cortland City Council support an application by Police Chief Gary Mink of a COPS Grant to strengthen the relationship between the school district and the police department in a joint effort to combat school violence.
Swore in new board member Michael Ranttila, named Milton Williams president pro tem and Donna Zuga as board president.
Announced the retirement of James Miller, head custodian of Cortland Elementary for 25 years.
