Hermitage denies zoning for garage

HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Donald and Laura Shawley won't be able to build an 18-foot-by-22-foot unattached garage at their home at 259 Sheridan St.
The city's zoning hearing board denied their request for a zoning variance Monday, saying the Shawleys didn't provide enough information for the board to make a decision in their favor. Zoning regulations in that single-family residential district require a minimum side yard setback of 5 feet for any building construction.
The Shawleys were unable to say exactly how far their garage would be from the property line because they don't know exactly where the line is, said Nathan Zampogna, city code enforcement officer.
