FARRELL SCHOOLS Acting principal will stay in post

FARRELL, Pa. -- The acting principal at Farrell High School now has the job permanently, and he didn't have to go through a search committee interview to get the appointment.
Charles Sanitate was named acting principal in June to succeed Frank Sincek, who retired July 2 after being principal for nine years.
Superintendent Richard Rubano said at the time that the school board would probably form a search committee for a new principal in September. But on Monday, Sanitate got the job in a 7-0 vote. It's effective today.
"He's done an excellent job," Rubano said, adding that the board was so pleased with Sanitate's performance that it decided a search committee wasn't necessary.
Salary: Sanitate was being paid about $64,000 a year as acting principal. His salary as principal will have to be negotiated, Rubano said.
Sanitate, who has worked for the district for more than 30 years, had served as dean of students for a year before being named acting principal. He handled seventh- and eighth-grade discipline before that. He had been a social studies teacher before moving into administration. He is a Farrell graduate.
School board seat: The board also announced that it plans to fill the vacant school board seat of Rose Marie Branca, who was re-elected to a four-year term on the board in November. She died Jan. 1 after a brief illness.
Branca served on the board for 26 years and was its current treasurer.
Rubano said any district resident interested in the post must submit a letter to his office by the close of business Friday.
The board will then schedule interviews and could schedule a special meeting to make the appointment. By law, the board has 30 days to fill a vacancy.
The board did vote Monday to make Edward Zappa the new board treasurer.
"I will miss Mrs. Branca," Zappa said later, explaining that her experience and knowledge made her an easy person to go to for help and information.
