CAMPBELL -- A 34-year-old Campbell man was walking with his wife on Murray Avenue around 8 p.m. Sunday when a 21-year-old man he knew, also of Campbell, drove up beside them, pulled a gun and threatened to kill him, according to police reports.
The man said the two had been in an altercation at a bar in Youngstown about two years ago. He said the driver, who was accompanied by three passengers, drove off, then returned, driving by the man and his wife as they stood in a doorway.
Police chase suspect
CAMPBELL -- The driver of a stolen 1985 tan Chevrolet Caprice led police on a chase through Campbell, Struthers and Lowellville and into Pennsylvania before escaping and being discovered at a house in Lowellville, according to police reports.
Campbell police said they pulled over the 48-year-old man, of McCartney Road in Lowellville, after observing him speeding on Wilson Avenue near Jackson Street. As he reached for his driver's license, the man sped off, with police chasing him on Wilson Avenue into Lowellville and onto South Hubbard Road and West Wood Street in Pennsylvania.
There, the car was abandoned and the driver and his passenger, later identified as his wife, fled into the woods. Campbell and Lowellville officers and the Boardman canine unit were called.
The woman was found in the woods. Lowellville police found the driver at a Liberty Street address. He was held without bond pending a Tuesday court hearing on charges of receiving stolen property, fleeing and eluding police, failure to comply with the order of a police officer, reckless operation and exceeding maximum speed limits.
Window broken
CAMPBELL -- A 76-year-old Jackson Drive woman called police to her home after her front picture window was broken out as she watched television around 8:30 p.m. Saturday, police reports show.
Police discovered a brick lying on the floor beneath the window and boarded the broken area with cardboard.
Secretary elected
YOUNGSTOWN -- Nancy Walega, a secretary at the Mahoning County Engineer's Office, has been elected secretary of the Ohio County Commissioners' Clerks and Engineers' Secretaries Association for 2002. The group shares ideas on job performance, technology, personnel management and other job-related issues.
