Jen Perugininationally ranked
YOUNGSTOWN -- Freshman women's basketball player Jen Perugini is ranked 12th in the nation in rebounding.
The 6-foot-2 Perugini, from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., is averaging a double-double with 12.9 points and 11.3 rebounds. She leads the Horizon League in rebounds.
Perugini grabbed a career-high 23 rebounds against Akron on Nov. 28 which is second highest single-game rebounding output this season in the nation.
The Penguins are at Loyola (Illinois) at 2 p.m. today in a Horizon League contest.

Sharon Speedwaybanquet Jan. 19
HARTFORD -- Jarod Larson, Lou Blaney, Dwayne Clay, Chad Reitz and Russ Dunn will be honored at the Sharon Speedway Banquet Jan. 19 at the Yankee Lake Ballroom in Brookfield.
Larson captured his third sprint championship in four years, while Blaney added another championship by winning the V-8 modified division. Dunn bested Jeff Rudrick in the trucking E-Mod division. Clay won the stock car division.
Sharon owner-promoter Ed Skillman and his team have several special awards planned for the event and an announcement should be made regarding the operation of Sharon Speedway for the upcoming 2002 season.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7 with awards at 8 and a dance will follow.
Boardman beatsMooney for title
STRUTHERS -- Four players had multi-goal games as Boardman defeated Cardinal Mooney 10-5 to win the first session championship in the girls varsity division of the Valley Sports Indoor Soccer League.
Sarah Grabert scored three goals, while Maggie Mills, Traci Sanders and Jenny Singelton each had two goals for Boardman (7-0-0).
Bridget Crogan scored twice for Mooney (5-2-0) in the all-Steel Valley Conference championship game.
Boardman softballbenefit night
BOARDMAN -- Lady Spartan Fast Pitch Club will sponsor a Night at the Races Jan. 19 at 7 at Operating Engineers Hall.
Cost per person (adults) is $5 with proceeds to benefit the Boardman High Lady Spartan softball team.

Mixed doublesevent at A-Plus
YOUNGSTOWN -- The first Charlotte A. Fairchild Memorial No-Tap Mixed Doubles Tournament will be held January 18-20 at A-Plus Family Bowl, 2617 Mahoning Ave.
Of the $15 per person entry fee, $5 will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research in the name of Fairchild.

Snyder receivespulling awards
JAMESTOWN, Pa. -- Don Snyder of New Springfield was honored by his peers at the American Tractor Pullers Association Grand American Awards Banquet held at Belterra Resort in Switzerland, Indiana.
Snyder is the owner and operator of Mr Nasty, the number one modified semi truck in the nation and the 2001 Big Rigs Pulling Series champion.
Snyder and his son Brian built and operated the huge truck through the 2001 season and claimed victories in nine different locations. These included wins at the Challenge Run held at Buck Motor Sports Park in Lancaster, Pa.; at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee and the Big Rigs Finals at Bloomsburg, Pa. fair.
Curbstoners
BOARDMAN -- Ken Conatser, the special teams coach for the Ohio State football team under coach Jim Tressel, will be the guest speaker at the Curbstone Coaches' weekly luncheon Monday at noon at the Lockwood House.
Conatser, a 1962 graduate of the University of Cincinnati, served on Tressel's staff at Youngstown State, and made the shift to Ohio State with him.
Masternick isscholar-athlete
YOUNGSTOWN -- Boardman High soccer player Janeen Masternick has been selected the Butler Wick & amp; Manning Engraving Scholar Athlete of the Month.
Masternick, a junior, led the Spartans to their first Steel Valley Conference title in eight years. She scored 23 goals in 13 games last fall and has 53 goals in her varsity career. A straight A student, Masternick is active in Key Club, SADD and Spanish Club.
Loew wins by KO
AKRON -- John Loew of the Southside Boxing Club knocked out Bernard Roberts of Akron at 1:33 of the first round to win the 147-pound Sub Novice Championship of the Akron Golden Gloves.
Loew dropped Roberts twice before landing a straight right hand to end the fight.
