PUCO Phone help
A number of utility-related resources are now available through the toll-free information line of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, (800) 299-7271. Callers are guided through a series of automated prompts and instructed to choose from the options listed below:
"Do not call" list: Callers may add their names to this list, effectively removing their names from databases that electric and natural-gas marketers use to solicit business over the phone. It is important to remember that this "do not call" list does not apply to telemarketing in general, only to that of electric and natural-gas marketers.
Apples to Apples price-comparison charts for electricity or natural gas: Callers may request copies of the charts, which allow consumers to compare rates of alternative energy suppliers to those of other suppliers and their local utility companies. Consumers who elect to participate in Ohio's electric and natural-gas choice programs may choose an alternative supplier to provide a portion of their utility service.
Telephone Customers Bill of Rights: Callers may order a copy, which provides a summary of the rights consumers have when dealing with telephone companies in Ohio.
