INTER-COUNTY LEAGUE South Range opens big lead, rolls past McDonald, 77-65



MCDONALD -- Matt Kirk scored 10 of his 20 points in the first quarter as South Range jumped out to a 21-13 lead and rolled to a 77-65 win over McDonald in an Inter-County League boys basketball game Friday.
Jim Sanders added 15 points and George Rohan 11 for the Raiders (6-1, 3-1).
South Range led 46-37 at the break and stretched the lead to 61-43 entering the final eight minutes.
Kevin Stonestreet hit for 23 points, while Jason Joynes scored 19 points, including four 3-point goals for the Blue Devils (3-5, 1-3).
Springfield 65, Mathews 47: VIENNA -- Mathews was enjoying a 26-25 halftime lead when Springfield Local popped in 24 points in the third quarter to reverse the deficit as the Tigers (8-1, 4-0) won their seventh in a row.
Junior guard David Rispinto had 16 of his 20 second-half points in the 24-point third quarter when Mathews scored only 10 points. Rispinto finished with 23 points for the Tigers.
Junior center Dan Schuler had 18 points and seven rebounds, while senior forward Jim Mash had 11 points and 12 of Springfield's 28 rebounds. The Tigers' senior point guard, Pat Birch, had seven assists.
Marc Burcham's 17 points paced Mathews.
Mineral Ridge 84, Jackson-Milton 53: NORTH JACKSON -- Mineral Ridge led 42-41 at halftime before Jackson-Milton was held scoreless in the third period as the Rams registered their ninth win in 10 games.
Chris Anderson had 20 points, Malachi Hall 14 points and Bobby Burgess 12 for Mineral Ridge (9-1, 5-0), which had 67 points after three quarters.
Against Mineral Ridge's zone defense, Jackson-Milton couldn't work the ball inside in the third quarter, nor could the Bluejays (4-5, 1-2) hit from the outside.
The Rams made 34 goals to the Bluejays' 22.
Jackson-Milton's Tim Shaw, a 5-11 sophomore forward, had a double-double with 18 points and 12 of his team's 33 rebounds. Matt Kiraly added 12 points for the winners.
Western Reserve 66, Lowellville 53: LOWELLVILLE -- Ryan Jones scored 26 points to lead Western Reserve over Lowellville.
Robbie James added 12 points and Jeremy Shevel and Greg Speece 10 for the Blue Devils (3-8, 3-2).
Lowellville (0-11, 0-5) was led by Andy Peterson with 16 points, while Mike Palumbo and Don Packner each added 10.
