The city's control board -- the mayor, law director and finance director -- approved these spending items Thursday:
Re-advertising for proposals and rejecting the only bid, from International Salt Co. at $49 per ton, for road salt. The cost last year was $23 per ton. The city has about 7,000 tons of salt available and a temporary supplier ready if needed, said Carmen Conglose Jr., deputy director of public works.Contracts totaling $170,257 with Murphy Contracting, Servi-Temp and Valley Electric to renovate city council chambers and caucus room.Severance of $40,357 for James M. Barber, a captain in the fire department who retired Nov. 28.Severance of $29,569 for Francis R. Nardella, a lieutenant in the fire department who retired Dec. 27.Severance of $1,977 for the estate of Kevin B. Dougherty, a driver and laborer in the street department, who died in a September motorcycle accident.
