WEATHERSFIELD TOWNSHIP Zoning board of appeals overturns official's ruling

Operation of a printing press business was approved for Kroner Publications.
MINERAL RIDGE -- The Weathersfield Township Zoning Board of Appeals overturned Thursday a ruling by the zoning inspector that had denied a request from Pelican Park Plaza Inc. to operate a retail plaza at 3971 and 3981 Main St., allowing the company to continue with its planning process.
Zoning inspector Sherry Cravers denied the request, based on zoning regulations that require a Commercial-B business to be at least 1,000 feet from residential property. The proposed plaza property is closer than that.
A conditional-use permit request was not acted on by the board, which told the developer it wants more information on what will be built there, including a site plan for a buffer and parking.
Jim Sabatine, Jr., a Pelican vice president, said the company will have an architect draw up more detailed plans for the plaza for board consideration of a conditional-use permit.
The property is at state Route 46 and Lincoln Avenue, north of County Line Road. Sabatine said he expects to put in five storefronts and will look to fill them with such businesses as a beauty shop and a card and gift shop.
The board approved a conditional-use permit for John Kroner of Kroner Publications Inc. to operate a printing press business at 1123 W. Park Ave.
The business publishes The Review, a newspaper serving Mineral Ridge and surrounding areas.
