YOUNGSTOWN -- Local girls have the opportunity to learn healthful lifestyle habits in a new program called "Go Girl Go," offered at the Jewish Community Center.
Girls ages 10 to 14 will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. at the JCC with fitness instructor Tracy Nard. The first class meets January 10.
"The Go Girl Go" project (sponsored and developed by the Women's Sports Foundation) combines sports and fitness participation with an educational intervention that focuses on reducing and preventing health-risk behaviors.
The sports environment provides girls with experiences of teamwork, goal-setting, positive adult mentoring, leadership training, as well as a ready-made support system. This project also creates the opportunity for exploration of the important health-risks that face teen-age girls today, according to Betsy McVey, program director at the JCC.
The class is open to members and nonmembers. For information, call (330) 746-3251. The fee is $25 for members and $40 for nonmembers.
