Forum to target Valley security issues
YOUNGSTOWN -- A task force in charge of developing a comprehensive state strategy to address security issues in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks will conduct a Jan. 24 forum in Youngstown.
The State of Ohio Security Task Force will have a two-hour meeting at 9 a.m. at McKay Auditorium at Youngstown State University's Beeghly College of Education. It is among 10 forums being held throughout the state Jan. 18-29.
The forums will help Ohio businesses identify state and local resources, increase awareness to security factors and safety needs, and coordinate efforts with law enforcement and government.
Those wanting to attend should make reservations at the Ohio Homeland Security Web site at www.ohiopublicsafety.com.
At the forum, Lt. Gov. Maureen O'Connor, who chairs the task force, will present an overview of the group and its current projects, and explain how the task force affects Ohio business practices and security planning.
Dr. Nick Baird, Ohio Department of Health director, will discuss bioterrorism and how to keep employees safe and offices productive. Dale Shipley, director of the Ohio Emergency Management Agency, will outline the state's participation in mutual aid agreements to protect private sector industries.
Also, Major General John Smith, the state's adjutant general, will review what employers can and should do when National Guard members are activated to serve.
