YOUNGSTOWN -- Forum Health is considering building a five-level parking deck adjacent to Northside Medical Center on a ground-level parking lot on Northview Boulevard.
Evonne Woloshyn, Forum Health spokeswoman, said there have long been "parking issues" at the Northside campus. She emphasized, however, that the 500-car parking deck is at this point merely a proposal and has not been approved by Forum's board of directors.
James Rodway, Liberty Township zoning inspector, said Forum Health has applied for variances in the township's building height and setback requirements. A hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. Jan. 22.
Zoning regulations say buildings may be only 35 feet high; the parking deck would be 54 feet high to the top of the wall of the structure and more than 70 feet to the top of the elevator shaft.
At one point, the parking deck also would be 10 feet from the property line, in violation of the 20-foot setback requirement.
Drug charges
LIBERTY -- Two New Castle men face drug-trafficking charges here.
Peter Young, 22, and Raymond Mercer, 23, both of Grant Street, appeared Thursday on the charges in Girard Municipal Court.
Police went to 3040 Green Acres Drive on Thursday morning on a call of unauthorized people in a condominium.
While checking the condo, police reported finding 17 bags of suspected marijuana and more than $150 cash. The men reportedly told police the marijuana was for their personal use.
Meeting site changed
GREENFORD -- South Range Board of Education has changed its Monday night meeting site to the middle school here.
The annual budget hearing will begin at 7:15 p.m., followed by the annual organizational meeting.
The board's regular, monthly meeting will be after the organizational meeting.
Zoning appeals opening
CANFIELD -- Trustees are accepting applications from township residents interested in serving a five-year term on the township board of zoning appeals.
Residents are asked to drop off a letter of interest and a r & eacute;sum & eacute; at the township office at 21 S. Broad St. before Jan. 25.
Two teens woundedin shooting at house
YOUNGSTOWN -- Two teen-agers shot at a house on the South Side late Thursday night were in critical condition this morning in St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Because drug paraphernalia, such as scales and small plastic bags, was found in the house at 436 W. Earle Ave. around 10:15 p.m., police think it was drug-related, Detective Sgt. John Kelty said.
Cliff Anderson, 17, of Cameron Avenue was shot four times -- twice in the back and once each in the shoulder and head, police said.
Paul L. Henderson, 18, who lived at the West Earle house, was shot once in the chest. Police found him on a couch.
Anderson, found lying in the driveway, told police who shot him but offered no motive.
At least two shooters fled by car. A third man, who was a potential victim, pretended to have been shot in order to survive and escaped, and police planned to question him.
OxyContin charges
YOUNGSTOWN -- Two drug charges against Mary Ann Barnett, 44, of Julian Street were bound over Thursday to a Mahoning County grand jury from municipal court. Barnett was arrested in December after police found OxyContin at her residence, where her 15-month-old grandson overdosed on the prescription painkiller.
The boy, Justin Hoschar, died Dec. 10 at Forum Health Tod Children's Hospital. A ruling on the death is pending from the Trumbull County coroner's office.
Three misdemeanor drug charges against Barnett are pending in municipal court. Municipal Judge Elizabeth A. Kobly set a pretrial for Feb. 11 on the charges.
DUI enforcement
BOARDMAN -- A DUI checkpoint will be from 10 tonight to 4 a.m. Saturday on Market Street south of Midlothian Boulevard. The checkpoint is the first of the new year operated by deputies from the Mahoning County Sheriff's Department.
