Board approves zoning change

MILTON -- A new convenience-hardware store and lumber yard may soon be built in the township.
The township zoning board approved Dave Sammartino's request to change about two acres from agricultural to commercial. Sammartino wants to erect Builders Unlimited Lumber & amp; Supply Inc., which consists of a shopping center and lumber yard, on the plot between state Route 534 and Old Pricetown Road.
Sammartino, of Samson Drive in Liberty, has owned Builders Unlimited Construction Plus LTD, of the same address, for 13 years and wants to expand.
"I'm very excited," Sammartino said. "I am looking forward to getting my buildings up there."
Before Sammartino can begin to build, however, township trustees also must approve the zoning request at a future meeting. Curtis Dungan, township zoning inspector, said he was confident the trustees would OK the request.
"I see no reason why they would turn it down," Dungan said. "They tend to promote business, and this is for the betterment of the community."
Dungan added that he also was excited about the construction happening in his community, not only businesses, but the recent boom in home construction he has seen.
"I think it is good for this community to grow," Dungan said.
