NEW YORK -- A fashion failure "Goodbye!" has been given to "Weakest Link" TV host Anne Robinson, who tops the 2001 Worst Dressed Women list from Mr. Blackwell.
The acid-tongued critic described Robinson as looking like "Harry Potter in drag."
Britney Spears, last year's No. 1 Worst Dressed Woman, came in second on his 42nd annual worst list for outfits he called "belly baring bombs" and for being a "re-hashed Madonna ... on a really bad day."
Oscar winner Juliette Binoche was third, termed "Le Gauche Binoche." R & amp;B trio Destiny's Child, dubbed a "trilogy of taste-free terror," shared fourth place for "Off-Pitch Kitsch." Icelandic singer Bjork was "A Swan Lake Mistake," for the bird outfit she wore to the Oscars last year.
Here's what Mr. Blackwell had to say about the other unlucky ladies to catch his attention:
Princess Stephanie of Monaco (No. 6): "Her wardrobe has the allure of nuclear waste."
Kate Hudson (No. 7.): "Looks like a cyclone victim from the OK Corral."
Camilla Parker Bowles (No. 8): "Packs the punch of a dilapidated Yorkshire pudding."
Cameron Diaz (No. 9): "Chaos in heels, period!"
Gillian Anderson (No. 10): "A grunge plunge resembling an escape from a Bohemian barbecue."
On the high end of his spectrum, actress Julia Roberts tops his "Fabulous Fashion Independents for 2001," followed by TV talk-show host Oprah Winfrey and TV journalist Diane Sawyer.
Blackwell's pronouncement of those he considers the worst- and best-dressed luminaries almost didn't happen. He had considered taking a year off because of "the horrific events of Sept. 11," he said in a news release.
"But after some thought, I felt some traditions [however frivolous] should continue," he said. "It may be good for a laugh!"
Blackwell was unable to deliver his put-downs at a news conference, because of recent throat surgery.
That's not Christina,Aguilera's camp says
NEW YORK -- Just because Christina Aguilera dresses like a tart and tramps around that "Lady Marmalade" video doesn't mean she's one in real life -- no matter what X-rated Web sites claim.
The Grammy-winning popster has taken the unusual stance of actually denying she has pulled a Pamela Anderson and is the star of a porn video making the rounds on the Net, reports E!Online.
The video, advertised on several adult sites, shows the back of a blond woman that is supposedly Aguilera. But in a sharply worded statement just posted on Christina-A.com, Aguilera's camp says the video's bogus.
"It has recently come to our attention that certain pornographic Web sites are posting sexually explicit photographs and video footage on the Internet fraudulently representing that it is Christina," the statement reads. "The person in the video is not Christina."
Aguilera's camp goes on to say they're ready to release the legal hounds. "The person who claims to have taken the video is not, and has never been, associated with Christina or her management. Christina's legal representatives have contacted the Web site hosts, and Christina plans to vigorously pursue all necessary action against the individuals responsible, including, if necessary, initiating criminal proceedings."
Whoopi at the Oscars
HOLLYWOOD -- Whoopi Goldberg will be host of this year's Oscar ceremony, her fourth time as emcee of Hollywood's biggest bash. Goldberg, whose last turn as host was for the 1998 ceremony, will run the proceedings March 24 when the awards return to Hollywood for the first Oscar show from the new Kodak Theatre, the movie academy said Tuesday.
"It'll be the first broadcast done from Oscar's new home, and I love a housewarming," Goldberg said.
An Oscar winner for "Ghost," Goldberg also was nominated for "The Color Purple." Steve Martin was host for last year's Academy Awards. Seven-time host Billy Crystal has been the most popular master of ceremonies in recent years. Oscar nominations will be announced Feb. 12.
