PREP BASKETBALL Bristol runs away with win; Ursuline suffers second loss



Boardman's girls easily handled Chaney.
BRISTOL -- Bristol High out-scored Maplewood 48-30 in the second and third periods en route to a 72-49 East Suburban Conference boys basketball victory Wednesday.
Craig Giesy led Bristol (8-1, 6-0) with 23 points. Point guard John King had a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists, and he also had six rebounds and six steals. David Whitt added eight points and 12 rebounds and David Colley scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Matt Chronister led Maplewood (5-4, 4-3) with 21 points.
Compass 45, Grand River Academy 27: YOUNGSTOWN -- Jamar Scales scored 15 points and had six steals to lead Compass Education Center past Grand River.
Darren Ford scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Compass (5-4) and Derrick Cowan scored 10 points.
Brian Treft led Grand River with nine points.
Akron Hoban 72, Ursuline 63: AKRON -- Isaiah Poindexter poured in 24 points, but Ursuline could not overcome a huge free throw differential Tuesday.
Poindexter added five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Marc Palermo scored 14 points, and Andre Edmonds added 11 for Ursuline (8-2).
The Irish were just 3-for-5 at the foul line, while the Knights were 21-for-26. Anthony Hurt was 10-of-11 at the line in the fourth quarter and finished with 29 points and 11 rebounds for Hoban (7-2).
June Wilder scored 20 points and Tom Heil added 12 for the Knights, who out-rebounded Ursuline 25-15.
Girls: YOUNGSTOWN -- Amber Bland had a double-double for Boardman with 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Spartans past Chaney 91-37 in a non-league matchup Wednesday.
Ashlee Russo scored 17 points for Boardman (9-1), Bridget Beachy and Brittany Durkin each scored 12 points and Jen Hlebovy added 11.
Sumya McElroy scored 11 points for Chaney (5-6) and Donielle Eldridge and Tara Mshar each grabbed seven rebounds.
