Trooper to be honored
MERCER, Pa. -- A Pennsylvania state trooper assigned to the Mercer Barracks has been recognized for his law enforcement efforts. Trooper Richard W. Houk was to be presented with an Honorable Mention Award today at the State Police Academy in Hershey. The award was to be presented by the Highway Safety Committee of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
The honor is part of the national "Looking Beyond the License Plate" campaign, designed to recognize law enforcement officers whose alertness and keen observation lead to the arrest of a suspect or solution of a crime. Houk is credited with making a number of drug seizures and arrests along Interstate 80 in Mercer County between October 2000 and April 2001 after detecting obscured or expired registration plates on vehicles involved in those crimes.
