Moderelli appointed to Sharpsville council

SHARPSVILLE, Pa. -- Guy Moderelli lost his re-election bid for his borough council seat in November, but he's back on council anyway.
Moderelli, an 18-year council veteran, was appointed by council Monday to fill a two-year vacancy left by the resignation of David Lapikas, who is moving from the borough.
Moderelli was the only person to apply for the post, said borough Manager Michael Wilson.
Robert Donatelli, a former Sharpsville Area school director, had asked the Sharpsville Democratic Committee for its support for the council post but he never applied to council for the job, Wilson said.
Both Donatelli and Moderelli were recommended by the Democratic committee for the appointment, said Mayor Kenneth Robertson.
During the reorganization part of Monday's meeting, Jack Cardwell was elected council president, succeeding Alex Kovach, and Gary Grandy, who lost his council seat two years ago but won election in November, was elected vice president.
