HILLSVILLE, Pa. -- Mahoning Township supervisors have decided to seek money to establish a police department.
The move during their meeting Monday was prompted by what they say is the long response time from the Pennsylvania State Police barracks in New Castle and the heavy traffic through the township on U.S. Route 224. Supervisor Poncho Exposito said he has applied for public and corporate grants and is seeking donations to help pay for police, because regular township revenues are insufficient.
Vacant posts: Supervisor Gary Pezzuolo asked residents to contact the municipal building if they are interested in serving in any of several vacant township posts.
In the annual reorganization meeting that preceded the regular meeting, Exposito was renamed supervisor chairman and Pezzuolo vice-chairman. Newly elected Supervisor Vito Yeropoli was seated.
