HOWLAND -- Marianne Krezeczowski had a career-high 35 points for the Howland High girls basketball team which dominated Poland 68-44 Saturday in a Metro Athletic Conference game.
The Tigers, who share first place with Poland, Canfield and Salem, took control early with an 18-3 lead.
Krezeczowski, a shooting guard, also had five steals for the Tigers (9-1, 2-1) who out-rebounded Poland, 30-18.
Poland (7-2, 2-1) never got closer than within 20 points in the second half.
Kristina Ferenac had nine rebounds for the Tigers, who made 26 of 50 field goals to Poland's 19 of 41.
Erin Hawkins had nine points for the Bulldogs while Julie Gallo added eight points and five rebounds.
Canfield 60, Struthers 41: CANFIELD -- Erin Martin scored 14 of her 21 points in the first quarter and shot 13-for-15 from the foul line for the Cardinals (8-3, 2-1).
Canfield shot out to an 18-10 lead after one quarter and was in control 32-20 at the break.
Jill Vertanen scored nine of her 16 points in the third when the Cardinals took a 51-23 lead into the final eight minutes.
Kristy Marapese scored 14 points for the Wildcats (4-5, 1-2) who had twice as many turnovers (31-16) as the Cardinals who snapped a two-game losing streak.
Salem 75, Niles 30: NILES -- Salem had little trouble turning back Niles for the 16th straight time.
The Quakers' offense was triggered by Alyson Cotter who scored 21 points. Lauren Teal added 18 and Molly Bauman 10 in a convincing 75-30 victory.
The efforts by Teal and Bauman were career highs.
Salem's (8-5, 2-1) defense limited the Red Dragons to five points in each of the first three quarters of action.
Ashley Thorne and Shea Whinnery both grabbed eight rebounds for the Quakers, while Lizzie Jesko had nine assists and Jenna Cramer made six steals.
Salem controlled the boards 30-17.
Stacia Ray led the Red Dragons (4-7, 0-3) with 10 points.
Ursuline 69, Maplewood 35: YOUNGSTOWN -- Courtney Davidson poured in 23 points on 8-for-14 from the field and 4-for-4 at the foul line.
Davidson also added five rebounds to spark Ursuline (8-2).
Cathie Walsh chipped in with 14 points to aid the Irish while Mahogani Graves and Christina Cook delivered nine apiece. Cook also had five rebounds.
Christen Clemson scored 16 points and copped 14 rebounds for Maplewood (5-5) while Krista Finch had six rebounds with six points.
Lowellville 56, Campbell 44: LOWELLVILLE -- The Nero sisters, junior Tami and freshman Amanda, combined for all the points in the first quarter as the Rockets shot out to an 18-8 lead after eight minutes.
Tami Nero scored 11 of her season-high 18 points and Amanda Nero had seven of her 21 points in the first quarter for the Rockets (6-3) who made six 3-point goals before halftime.
Lowellville junior three-year starter Danielle Hvisdak hurt her knee in the first minute of the game and did not return. Rebecca Basista came off the bench to pull in a season-high 12 rebounds for Lowellville.
Tierra McIntosh scored 18 points and Elaine Sharshan had 12 more for the Red Devils (3-7).
Badger 50, Pymatuning Valley 42: ANDOVER -- Jenny Place scored 21 points to lead Badger to victory over cold-shooting Pymatuning Valley. Christine Miller added 12 points for the Braves (6-5).
Rosalyn Reynolds fired in 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to pace Pymatuning Valley (2-8).
