Michaelis namedby Horizon League
GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- YSU sophomore Kurt Michaelis was named Horizon League Indoor Track Performer of the Year, the first YSU athlete to receive this honor.
Michaelis, who qualified for the NCAA Championships in the mile with a school-record 4:04.55, earned double wins to lead the Penguins to a fourth place finish at last weekend's Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships.
He placed first in the 800-meter (1:53.63) and the mile (4:08.70).

Bill Hart namedat LaBrae
LEAVITTSBURG -- Bill Hart has been hired as the head football coach at LaBrae High, replacing Dave Zelenak.
Hart had been the offensive coordinator for the Vikings, who were 1-9 last season, including 0-7 in the Trumbull Athletic Conference.
Poland's Marcheseto join Clarion
POLAND -- Jason Marchese, a 6-foot-3, 225-pound senior at Poland High, will sign with Clarion University to play defensive end for the football team.
Marchese was a two-year starter for the Bulldogs and a captain this season. He was a first-team All-Metro Athletic Conference selection and was first team quad-county.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Tickets for Saturday's Chaney-Poland boys basketball Division II tournament game will be on sale Friday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Chaney High School.
Bethany's Schubertnamed MVP of PAC
BETHANY, W. Va. -- Keith Schubert, a 6-foot-4 senior forward on the Bethany College basketball team from Girard High, has been named the Presidents' Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player for the second straight year while repeating on the All-PAC First Team.
Schubert averaged team-bests of 25.2 points 7.1 rebounds this season, and became the first Bethany player, male or female, to score more than 2,000 career points. He has 2,049 points.
Mike Majzun, a 6-3 junior from Struthers High, was named to the All-PAC team as an honorable mention. Majzun averaged 14 points and 2.8 rebounds.
Majzun and Schubert led Bethany to its second straight PAC championship last week, scoring 25 and 24 points, respectively, as the Bison defeated Grove City, 89-74, in the PAC Tournament final. The win was a school-record 20th for the Bison (20-7), who earned an at-large berth to the NCAA Great Lakes regional tournament.
The Bison will play Pitt-Bradford today at 7 p.m. in their regional opener.
Hockey teamfinishes unbeaten
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Borderhawks achieved a perfect 12-0 record to win the Mite A Minor Division (8-9-year olds) championship in the Cleveland Suburban Hockey League.
The Borderhawks, who led the league in goals with 72, were led on offense by Ryan Demyen, Chase Leonelli, Jared Taylor, Brandon Wyand and Alec Wyand.
Other forwards were Connor Schultheis, Kevin Shannon and Mike Gorgacz.
The defense was led by Adam Robertson, Preston Stauffer and Christopher Shannon.
Goaltenders Tyler Emery and Jered Younger led the league in goals against average with 1.83.
The Borderhawks were coached by Tim Shannon and assisted by Bob Demyen.
Hostetter namedtop wrestler
TWINSBURG -- Shain Hostetter, a freshman wrestler for Muskingum College from Salem High, won the John Summa Award as the top performer in the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships.
Hostetter gained the honor by pinning Joe Metcalf of Mount Union in 2 minutes, 28 seconds, to win the 125-pound title, in the meet held last Saturday at Ohio Northern.
He qualified automatically for the Division III Championships Friday and Saturday in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
