VIENNA -- C. Dino Theofilos, chairman of the Western Reserve Port Authority Board for three years, resigned this morning. Theofilos, appointed to the board in 1995 by Trumbull County commissioners, said he recently became president of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, Warren, and no longer has the time to serve on the board. "Its been a great seven years," Theofilos, president of Carlson-Wagonlit Travel Agency, said at this morning's board meeting. "I've got to say that this has absolutely been the finest board that I have ever worked with." The board elected Reid Dulberger, a vice-president of Youngstown-Warren Regional Chamber, to replace Theofilos as chairman. The authority oversees operations of Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport.
Walk Warm programat Columbiana High
COLUMBIANA -- Columbiana village schools will open the high school to adults 30 and over Monday for its new Walk Warm program. From 3 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday during the remaining weeks of winter weather, adults are invited to walk the high school hallways. Superintendent Patricia Hura said the program will give adults a healthy way to exercise out of inclement weather conditions. She said the hallways are marked so people will know how far they have walked. Pam Zitto, the school nurse, will be available in the commons area during the first week of the program to give free blood-pressure screenings.
Road work to begin
SALEM -- Construction is to begin Monday on a $1.2 million project intended to improve traffic flow and motorists' safety along East State Street. Workers will begin relocating water and sewer lines near East State's intersection with Cunningham Road to prepare for lowering a hill over which East State passes at that point. Over the next six months, crews will widen East State and remove the Butcher Road intersection, which is west of Cunningham Road. The state is paying for about $765,000 of the job, with the city paying the rest.

BOARDMAN -- An archaeologist will give a public slide presentation concerning the Hartley Mastodon, whose bones were found last year near Salem, at 6 p.m. Sunday in the Boardman Park Community Center. Brian Redmond of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, which owns the bones, will give the presentation at a meeting of the Mahoning Valley Chapter of the Ohio Archaeological Society.

EAST PALESTINE -- East Palestine Memorial Public Library staff invites patrons of all ages to recommend books they have read. In a new program for all ages starting Friday, patrons' recommended reading lists will be copied on bookmarks and put on display throughout the library. From the list of those who recommend books, the library staff will draw names monthly and winners will receive a free paperback book.
Candidate to visit area
SHARON, Pa.-- Pennsylvania gubernatorial candidate Ed Rendell of Philadelphia will be in the Shenango Valley on Sunday. The Democratic candidate, who served as Philadelphia's mayor, will meet with supporters at 4:15 p.m. in the parking lot of Quaker Steak & amp; Lube at Connelly Boulevard and Chestnut Avenue.
Dump truck topples
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A dump truck driver was cited for speeding after toppling a truck loaded with bricks and cinder block onto Cherry Street in Taylor Township. Pennsylvania State Police said the truck driven by Robert Wise of Leesburg-Grove City Road, Mercer, toppled onto its side after going around a bend at 9:10 a.m. Wednesday. The truck is owned by Tri-County Industries of Grove City. Police said Wise had a fractured shoulder and cuts and bruises on his head, but did not say if he sought medical treatment. They said Tri-County cleaned up the bricks and cinder blocks. Officers on duty this morning didn't know whether the accident forced closing of the road.
Ungaro seeks post
LIBERTY -- Former Youngstown Mayor Patrick J. Ungaro is vying to become Liberty Township administrator. Ungaro was questioned by township trustees during a closed session Wednesday. Administrator Darlene St. George is leaving to become Howland Township administrator. St. George officially becomes Howland administrator April 1, but will begin training March 18. Trustee Jack Simon said no decision has been made on hiring Ungaro and no offer will be made until he discusses it with Trustees Patrick Durina and Gary Litch. Simon said Ungaro was willing to take the job and expressed no opposition to moving into the township. Ungaro is an assistant principal at West Junior High School in Youngstown. No other interviews are scheduled, Simon noted.
