LEETONIA Board creates new position of principal

LEETONIA -- Elementary Principal Elizabeth Goerig will become principal of grades 5 through 8 and serve as the district's curriculum coordinator when pupils and staff move into new buildings this fall.
The Leetonia school board approved creation of a principal's position Wednesday for kindergarten through fourth grades. Currently Goerig is principal for kindergarten through sixth grades and John Rydarowicz is principal for seventh through 12th grades.
Superintendent Thomas Inchak said Goerig chose to take the middle school position. A new elementary principal will be hired and paid in part with money now used to pay two part-time employees to handle management of curriculum and special education, he said.
The new elementary principal will also coordinate special education for all grades, he said.
Kindergarten discussed: The board also continued discussion of all-day kindergarten. If the board approves all-day kindergarten, it wouldn't be mandatory and parents could still opt to send their children to half-day kindergarten, he said.
Pupils and staff will move into a new facility on Walnut Street this fall that will put all the district's nearly 900 pupils at one location. Currently pupils are housed in three buildings.
