Woman sues jail
YOUNGSTOWN -- A woman who served six months in the Trumbull County jail has filed a $1.25 million lawsuit contending jail officials would not allow her to get timely medical help for a skin condition.
Sharon Overly, of Austintown-Warren Road, Warren, filed the lawsuit Monday in U.S. District Court in Youngstown. Sheriff Thomas Altiere, who runs the jail, could not be reached. It is unclear why Overly was in jail.
In the suit, Overly contends she developed a skin condition after being jailed in January 2000. She spoke to a nurse but was not allowed to meet with a physician, the suit states.
She contends she had to wait two months before she was allowed to see a doctor and because of the wait, the skin condition worsened and has become chronic.

WARREN -- A 25-year-old Mansfield man serving five years in Trumbull Correctional Institution has pleaded guilty to vandalism.
Judge W. Wyatt McKay of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court sentenced Thomas Wynn Monday to an additional 11 months.
Prison officials said Wynn caused $2,000 worth of damage to a segregation cell.
Wynn has been in prison since 1999 after being convicted of felonious assault, escape and burglary.

NILES -- A man accused of walking away last month from a Mahoning County Minimum Security Jail work detail has been bound over to the grand jury.
Niles police arrested Timothy R. Faler, 54, of Royal Mall Apartments, formerly of Vienna, Feb. 14, charging him with receiving stolen property, obstructing official business, possession of drug paraphernalia and drug abuse.
Faler also faces an escape charge from Youngstown Municipal Court. Authorities say he walked away Jan. 25 from a work detail at the downtown jail. He had less than four months remaining to serve on a sentence for breaking and entering, possession of criminal tools and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says David Henry, 36, transported 136 pounds of suspected marijuana on the Ohio Turnpike on Sunday.
Troopers stopped the pickup truck driven by Henry for speeding. Henry was arrested for driving under suspension, and a search of the truck found three duffel bags behind the seat containing the suspected drugs with an estimated street value of $308,440.
Henry is in the Trumbull County jail under $100,000 bond.

Columbiana mangets prison for rape
LISBON -- A 47-year-old Columbiana man has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for raping a child.
Judge C. Ashley Pike of Columbiana County Common Pleas Court imposed eight-year sentences Monday for each of the two first-degree rape counts on which Donald Guy of West Salem Street was convicted. Ten years is the maximum sentence. Guy was found guilty by a jury in December of raping the same boy in the summer of 1999 and in the spring of 2000. The boy, whom Guy knows, was 9 when the first assault occurred. The rapes took place at Guy's apartment in Columbiana.
Assistant county Prosecutor Tim McNicol said the boy's family agreed with the sentence.
