LISBON -- A 47-year-old Columbiana man is sentenced to 16 years in prison for raping a child. Judge C. Ashley Pike of Columbiana County Common Pleas Court imposed eight-year sentences Monday for each of the two first-degree rape counts on which Donald Guy of West Salem Street was convicted. Ten years is the maximum sentence. Guy was found guilty by a jury in December of raping the same boy in the summer of 1999 and in the spring of 2000.
The boy, whom Guy knew, was 9 when the first assault occurred. The rapes took place at Guy's apartment in Columbiana.
Assistant county Prosecutor Tim McNicol said the boy's family agreed with the sentence.
Man injured in crashof light aircraft
COLUMBIANA -- A Northfield man was injured when two motor-powered parachutes collided over Fairfield Township.
Gregory Corradino Jr., 57, was in stable condition Monday in Cleveland Metro Health Center. Corradino was operating his light aircraft about 4:20 p.m. Sunday when it collided with a similar aircraft piloted by Lloyd Willis Jr. of 7462 Depot St., Rogers, the Lisbon Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported. The collision caused Corradino's craft to crash in a field along state Route 517, west of Raley Road. Willis landed his chute safely, the patrol said.
The matter is still being investigated. It's unclear at what altitude the collision occurred.
East Palestine council
EAST PALESTINE -- City council's development and utility committees will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday in council chambers. The joint meeting will be to discuss hiring an attorney to negotiate the city's cable television franchise agreement.
Leetonia school board
LEETONIA -- Leetonia Schools Board of Education will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Orchard Hill Elementary.
Among agenda items are discussion of creating a principal's position for kindergarten through fourth grades and hiring coaches for spring and fall sports.
Penn Power building
UNION TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Work will start as soon as weather permits for a Penn Power service building on McCracken Lane at Pa. Route 60.
Union Township supervisors approved a subdivision for the property, which will include a 13,700-square-foot facility to house Penn Power's meter and line departments.
Personnel will be moved from the downtown New Castle office into the new facility; 36 people are eventually expected to be employed there.
Supervisor Chairman Ralph Nuzzo said occupancy is projected for Sept. 15. Developers are Frank Pascoe and John Drespling, both of New Castle. Giordano Construction, also of New Castle, is in charge of the project.

Guest teacher planned
SANDY LAKE, Pa. -- David E. Hess, Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, will try his hand at teaching at the McKeever Environmental Education Center on Wednesday.
Hess will teach middle school pupils visiting the center about the environmental contributions of the center's namesake, Ivan McKeever, in a program set for 8:15 a.m. He will also join the students in hands-on environmental learning activities.
