YOUNGSTOWN -- Police seek a man who robbed $87 of bingo money from workers at St. Casimir Church, 145 Jefferson St. A worker who was in the church social hall preparing for bingo at about 9:25 a.m. Sunday said a man, about 25, came in and said he wanted to see the cards, holding his hand back as if he had a gun, police reports show. The robber pushed the worker to the floor and hit him in the head with a money drawer, grabbing about $400 but dropping $313 as he fled. A woman working at the church tried to stop the robber as he left, but he pushed her into a wall.
Man cuts own throat
YOUNGSTOWN -- City police arrested a 28-year-old East Side man on several outstanding warrants after he had cut himself with a razor he reportedly was using to threaten his ex-girlfriend and the woman's 9-year-old son. The woman told police the man had broken into her Shady Run Road home at about 3:15 a.m. Sunday and threatened to kill her. When police arrived, the man was cornering the woman and her son in the kitchen. When an officer drew his weapon and ordered the man to stop, he turned to face the officer and began to cut his own throat with the razor blade. The officer then knocked the blade out of the man's hand with a flashlight. The man was arrested on two felonious assault warrants and an aggravated burglary warrant.
Poland design event
POLAND -- A design marathon, intended to produce a more aesthetic and pedestrian-friendly Poland Village, will be conducted here Friday through March 4 with help from a group of architecture students at Kent State University. A public input session will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Poland public library. The students will give a final presentation of their findings to the public from 7 to 9 p.m. March 4 at the library.
Weapon charge
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 20-year-old man was arrested on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon after police heard several gunshots on the South Side, near Evergreen and Rosedale avenues, police reports show. The man, of Lora Avenue, was arrested at about 11:55 p.m. Sunday after police found a .40-caliber handgun in the car he was driving.
Apartment tenantsreport shootings
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police are investigating shootings into two apartments in a house on Lora Avenue. A 40-year-old second-floor tenant said she was home when she heard about seven or eight gunshots at about 9:55 p.m. Sunday. Bullet holes were found in a window and closet, with a slug in the closet area. The 42-year-old ground floor tenant said she was not home at the time but saw a bullet hole in her picture window. Police found two slugs in a dining room. Numerous shell casings were found in front of residences across the street from the building.
E. Side home robbed
YOUNGSTOWN -- Two men carrying handguns robbed a 70-year-old East Side woman at her Miami Avenue home. The woman told city police she was in her sitting room at about 11 p.m. Saturday when two men in their 20s, dressed in black with bandannas covering their faces, broke down a door and pointed guns in her face. When she fell to the floor, one of the men told her to get her purse. She complied and the men fled, threatening her, "We will be back."
Drive-by shooting
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 26-year-old East Side man reported to city police that he had been shot in the lower left leg during a drive-by shooting. The man, of Karl Street, said he was walking on the South Side in the area of Sherwood and Glenwood avenues when he heard a shot and saw a flash come from an auto traveling east on Sherwood.

Dairy Mart robbed
NILES -- A Robbins Avenue convenience store reported being robbed early Saturday. An employee told police a man approached the counter in Dairy Mart about 3 a.m. and ordered the worker to put money on the counter. The man, described as white, about 5-foot-3 and 135 pounds and wearing a black-and-yellow jacket and a ski mask, kept his right hand in his jacket pocket as if he had a weapon.
The man left the store on foot with a small amount of money.
