SMALL COLLEGE ROUNDUP Hardie leads Bethany to PAC crown



Bethany's men's team made it a sweep in the conference tournament championship games.
BETHANY, W.Va. -- The Bethany College women's basketball team did what it had to do. Now, it must wait for its NCAA tournament fate.
Cardinal Mooney High graduate Katie Hardie had 16 points and 14 rebounds as the Bison defeated Grove City 60-55 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference tournament championship game Saturday.
Kelley Richardson scored 17 points for Bethany, while Grove City (14-12) was led by Jessica Jenkins and Christy Faller, with 11 points each.
Bethany (21-6) will learn tonight whether it will play in the NCAA tournament for the third straight season.
Slippery Rock 69, Shippensburg 61: SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- In her final regular season home game, Slippery Rock senior Shelbey Wardman scored 26 points to lead her team to victory at Morrow Field House.
Senior Jackie Altenweg added 11 points and Erin Turner 10, while Stacey Green grabbed 16 rebounds for the Rock (15-11, 8-4), who will face Shippensburg again Tuesday at a site to be determined.
Emily Swingler scored 24 points for Shippensburg (19-7, 8-4).
Men: BETHANY, W. Va. -- The Bethany Bison captured their second consecutive PAC men's basketball title by overcoming a two-point halftime deficit to post an 89-74 against Grove City.
It marks the first time Bethany has captured back-to-back PAC men's titles since the 1966-67 season and 67-68 seasons.
Junior Mike Majzun (Struthers) and senior Keith Schubert (Girard) led the way with 25 and 24 points, respectively.
Junior Andy Vlajkovich (Canfield) had 11 points for Grove City.
Shippenbsburg 65, Slippery Rock 62: SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Bryant Lewandowski had 23 points in his final collegiate game, but Slippery Rock fell to Shippensburg 65-62 Saturday at Morrow Field House.
Dave Johnson added 10 points for the Rock (7-19, 1-11), while Ben Zajac grabbed 11 rebounds.
Ron Banks scored 23 points to lead Shippensburg (9-17, 3-9).
