Point Man Ministries
As state coordinators for Point Man Ministries International, Phil and Vera Kinsey provide help to veterans and their loved ones suffering from the aftermath of war. Kinsey also works with other veterans organizations and is chaplain for both Leetonia American Legion and Washingtonville VFW posts.
LZ Refuge: The Kinseys operate LZ Refuge from their home in Leetonia and from a storefront community center at 160 Main St. in Washingtonville. LZ, short for landing zone, is an acronym familiar to veterans, particularly those of the Vietnam era. The community center is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. It is closed Sunday and Monday. Food and clothing is available free to anyone in need. Kinsey said veterans are welcome to stop in for information or just to talk.Open Hands and Hearts: Missions to Vietnam: In the past several years, groups led by the Kinseys have traveled throughout South Vietnam in former areas of U.S. military operations. In areas such as Da Nang and Chu Lai, for example, they gave rice and school supplies to a Catholic orphanage, money to a young man in a wheelchair and his mother, and gave bottled water to road workers. They also aided a young girl near Dong Ba Thin who had been sold for money, and near Tuy Hoa they distributed bags of rice, milk, and Gospel materials to people along the highway. For more information about Point Man International Ministries, food or clothing assistance, or establishing an LZ outpost, call Kinsey at (330) 427-6909 or (330) 427-6880.
