Man, 26, dies after being shot in neck

YOUNGSTOWN -- A 26-year-old man is dead after a shooting on Market Street early Saturday.
According to a witness' statement to police, Kendall Rutledge was shot in the right side of the neck about 3 a.m. as he drove along Market Street. The witness was a passenger in Rutledge's car and told police that eight to 10 shots were fired from a silver Oldsmobile Cutlass with expensive chrome wheels as it pulled alongside them near the intersection of Market and Boston Avenue.
Rutledge then lost control of his car and crashed into a pole.
The passenger helped him exit the vehicle on the passenger side, and they both ran between buildings in the 3000 block of Market Street as the Cutlass turned west onto Philadelphia Avenue.
Rutledge collapsed in a driveway, and the passenger flagged down police who had stopped at the crash scene.
Rutledge was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center but could not be revived. According to police reports, powder burns on Rutledge's neck indicate he was shot from 2 to 4 feet away.
Both he and his passenger were reportedly at Classique Lounge and Taco Bell earlier in the evening but were not involved in any confrontations. Rutledge's family told police he had no known enemies but had recently gone through a divorce.
Police did not have information about where Rutledge lived.
