Community Helping Animals in Need, a local nonprofit group dedicated to solving the pet overpopulation problem, provides these facts to show why spaying and neutering of dogs and cats is important.
About 2,300 kittens and puppies are born every hour in the United States.
In six years, one female dog and her offspring can be the source of 67,000 puppies if none is spayed or neutered.
In seven years, one female cat and her offspring can produce 370,092 kittens if none is spayed or neutered.
Each year, millions of cats and dogs are abandoned, killed or left to survive by themselves.
