World Day of Prayer
YOUNGSTOWN -- Friday's World Day of Prayer offers prayer and unity. Men and women in more than 170 countries will take part in ecumenical worship services, written by the women of Romania on the theme, "Challenged to Reconcile."
Local churches taking part include: Poland Presbyterian Church, 10 a.m.; St. Augustine Episcopal Church, Youngstown, 10 a.m.; Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Columbiana, 1 p.m.; Canfield Christian Church, 11 a.m.; First Federated Church, North Jackson, 11 a.m., followed by a luncheon ; Lockwood United Methodist Church, Boardman, 1 to 3 p.m.; North Benton Presbyterian Church, 10 a.m.; Vienna United Methodist Church with the Vienna Presbyterian and St. Vincent De Paul Catholic churches, 11 a.m., followed by lunch; Third Christian Church, Warren, sponsored by the Warren-Area Church Women United service, 10:45 a.m., followed by lunch.
Late pastorto be honored
YOUNGSTOWN -- Antioch Baptist Church will celebrate Black History Month by honoring its late pastor, the Rev. Alfred Ward, and naming the newly renovated fellowship hall after him. The Rev. Ward served as pastor from 1951-1996 before his death in 1999. The dedication and the unveiling of the plaque by his widow and family will take place immediately after the 11 a.m. service Sunday. The Rev. Lonnie K. A. Simon, pastor emeritus of New Bethel Baptist Church, will be the guest speaker.
Mass celebrated
HUBBARD -- The Rev. Francis Raco, a native of Youngstown and missionary to India, will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving in St. Patrick's church administration building at 3 p.m. Sunday.
Novena and feast
CAMPBELL -- St. Joseph the Provider Parish will celebrate a Novena of Masses and prayers for the patronal feast of St. Joseph at 6:30 p.m. March 11 to 18. The novena will conclude on the feast of St. Joseph, March 19, with a Mass and procession at 6:30 p.m. followed by a dinner hosted by the St. Joseph Society. Call (330) 755-0266.
Weekend seminar
FARRELL, Pa. -- New and Living Way Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ will have a seminar, "Men and Women Waiting in the Womb of God," at 7 p.m. March 15, noon March 16, and at 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. March 17. Ministers from New and Living Way and other local churches will be the speakers.
Musician to perform
NORTH LIMA -- Calvin Hunt will be in concert at the North Lima Mennonite Church at 7 p.m. March 16. Calvin, with the Brooklyn Tabernacle Singers, won a Grammy and a Dove award and has appeared on "Good Morning America." There will be a spaghetti dinner from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. that day at the church. Annual event
YOUNGSTOWN -- Third Baptist Church's annual Family and Friends Day will be on March 17. Sunday school classes are at 9:30 a.m. and worship at 11 a.m. will be followed by a dinner.
