Teen faces charges in plot to kill dad

NESHANNOCK, Pa. -- A 16-year-old boy is in custody of Lawrence County juvenile authorities, accused of trying to solicit someone to kill his father, said Philip Carlo, Neshannock Township police superintendent.
Carlo said the boy was taken into custody Thursday night and placed in a juvenile facility outside the county. The police superintendent would not say how police discovered the plot to kill the boy's father.
A juvenile petition charging the boy with criminal solicitation to commit murder and criminal conspiracy was filed in Lawrence County Juvenile Court, Carlo said. The boy will have a hearing before the county juvenile master sometime in the next 72 hours.
Carlo said police learned that the 16-year-old has been trying to find someone during the past few weeks to kill his father. Carlo said the boy's attempts were unsuccessful and they do not expect to file charges against anyone else.
Carlo said it's unclear exactly why the boy wanted his father dead.
"It's hard to say. We have been told a bunch of stories. We have a bunch of reasons why," the police superintendent said.
