NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Checking out a Lawrence County home's value will soon be a click away.
County commissioners have decided to post all values placed on property during countywide reassessment on the county Web site. They expect the information to be online in about a week.
Commissioners said they want to give landowners a tool to help them decide if the values placed on the property is fair.
"It will be there for them to compare their property to other properties in the county," said Commissioner Roger DeCarbo.
First since '63: New values have been placed on all property in Lawrence County as part of countywide reassessment. This is Lawrence County's first reassessment since 1963.
County landowners will also receive notices in the mail next week informing them of the fair market value of their land.
Manatron Sabre Systems, the Miamisburg, Ohio, company hired to complete reassessment, is conducting informal appeals through April 12 for anyone disputing those numbers.
DeCarbo said Manatron Sabre wants residents appealing property values to bring in documentation showing other values on similar property are lower. Posting all property values on the Internet should give them a way to gather those numbers, he said.
County officials say the values will be posted in alphabetical order by community.
Property values on the county Web site, www.co.lawrence.pa.us, should be available by next Friday.
