Leetonia taking bids forbuilding construction
LEETONIA -- Village officials are accepting bids for construction of a storage building for the water and sewer department. Village Administrator Gary Phillips said the water and sewer department has never had a building to store its equipment.
The building also will house equipment not in use during particular seasons, he said. Bid packets are available at Howells & amp; Baird, Salem engineering firm. Phillips said bids will be opened at noon March 1 at village hall then presented to council at its March 6 meeting.
Council fills vacancy
LEETONIA -- Village council appointed Jim Pittman to council to fill the seat vacated Feb. 6 by Doug Roose, who resigned because of conflicts with his work schedule.
Pittman previously served on the council from 1987 to 1999. Village Administrator Gary Phillips said the council had a difficult decision picking a new member from five residents who applied. He said the council chose Pittman because of his past experience.
Facing stalking charges
SHARON, Pa. -- A King Street man faces charges after he repeatedly called his ex-wife and followed her to work, police said. Sharon police arrested Andrew Burns, 25, Wednesday evening, and he is to be arraigned late today by District Justice James McMahon on charges of stalking, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault and harassment by communication.
Police said his ex-wife received about 10 harassing telephone calls between midnight Sunday and 7 a.m. Monday and she was confronted by Burns as she left for work that morning. Police said he also rammed his car into her vehicle twice as she drove away and pulled in front of her car several times.
Diabetes program
BOARDMAN -- Mahoning Valley Dietetic Association and the Health Ministry team at St. Charles Church is offering a free community program, What's New in Diabetes, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Charles School Auditorium, 7325 Westview Drive.
Experts will discuss the latest trends in managing diabetes to prevent further complications, such as heart disease, vascular disease, vision loss and kidney failure. There also will be speakers from the Diabetes HELP of Forum Health at Northside Medical Center, 10 vendors from pharmaceutical companies displaying products used in managing diabetes, and a Chinese auction to benefit the MVDA Scholarship Fund for Youngstown State University students.

Drug indictment
CLEVELAND -- A federal grand jury has returned a five-count indictment against a South Side man accused of violations of federal narcotics and firearms laws.
William F. Daniel, 25, also known as Capone, of East Philadelphia Avenue, faces four charges of possession with the intent to distribute and/or distribution of cocaine base, crack, and one charge of using and carrying a firearm during a drug trafficking crime.
On each of two of the drug charges, Daniel faces a prison term of five to 40 years if convicted and a $2 million fine. On each of the other two drug charges, Daniel faces a prison term of 10 years to life if convicted and a $4 million fine. On the firearms charge, he faces a mandatory prison term of five years if convicted and a $250,000 fine.
Gunman robs motel
AUSTINTOWN -- A gunman stole $381 from the cash register at Motel 6 on Seventy-Six Drive at about 6:40 p.m. Tuesday. A motel employee told police a man wearing a brown ski mask and black gloves entered the lobby and asked about room rates. He then pointed a handgun at her. The gunman fled to a blue pickup in the parking lot.
Men fire shots in door
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 48-year-old man reported to city police that the front door of his North Side home had been shot through by two men who had knocked on the door and asked for "John." Police saw four bullet holes in the door, one in a closet and two in a wall.
