NILES -- The 2002 Mahoning Valley Home and Garden Show will offer both home and Hollywood at the Eastwood Expo Center Friday through Sunday. The event features the grand opening of the new Expo Dome and more than 15,000 square feet of landscaping.
Don Diamont, "Brad" from "The Young and the Restless," will appear from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, and Jason Cook, "Sean D" from "Days of Our Lives," will be there from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday.
The show features a full slate of seminars onstage. Also, the Great Chefs of Our Valley from the area's premier restaurants will share their favorite recipes, presented by Opus Twenty-One restaurant in Howland.
Home-buyer workshop
YOUNGSTOWN -- Family Financial Education Services, a program of Family Service Agency, is sponsoring a first-time home-buyer workshop, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, at the agency, 535 Marmion Ave.
This free workshop is designed to cover basic home-buying information such as determining affordability, budgeting, credit problems and loan application process. All participants will receive a certification of attendance that will satisfy the education requirements for some mortgage programs. Call Ron Clifton at (330) 782-5664 to register.
Pet safety program
YOUNGSTOWN -- Camelot Arms Care Center will have a community program on winter safety tips for pets and their owners at 6 p.m. Thursday at the care center, 2958 Canfield Road.
Mike Marinecz, a physical therapist, and representatives from Angels for Animals, a nonprofit group that advocates responsible pet ownership, will speak in the center's main dining room. The free presentation includes refreshments and gifts. To reserve space, call the facility at (330) 792-5511.
