NEW WILMINGTON Hart to run again for 4th District seat
She is the only Republican seeking the nomination.
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- U.S. Rep. Melissa Hart is back on the campaign trail.
The 4th District Republican congresswoman made four stops throughout her district, which includes Lawrence, Beaver and portions of Allegheny, Mercer and Butler counties, today to announce her re-election bid.
Lawrence County commissioners Ed Fosnaught, a Republican, and Democrat Roger DeCarbo were expected to be at Hart's last stop of the day here to show their support.
"This endorsement is proof that elected officials, both Republican and Democrat, can work together for the good of a region when they put people ahead of politics," Hart said in a news release about her re-election bid.
Hart, of Bradford Woods, Allegheny County, said she worked hard to keep Lawrence County as part of her congressional district, despite rumors that it would be given to another legislator.
"That's because the people of this region -- people like our county commissioners and New Castle Mayor Tim Fulkerson, who put the community ahead of politics -- have done a lot to help Lawrence County. And we are just getting warmed up," she said.
Planned bill: Hart said in the next few weeks she intends to introduce an economic security package meant to help the region access more federal money and support and retain local jobs.
Hart is the only Republican to announce her candidacy for the post.
Democrat: A Beaver County man, Steven Drobac Jr., has announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination.
Drobac is the only Democratic candidate so far. In the 2000 election, there were eight people vying for the Democratic nomination, including Matthew Mangino, Lawrence County district attorney, and Atty. Joe Bellissimo of Ellwood City
Hart ended up beating Democratic nominee Terry Van Horne, a Westmoreland County state legislator, in the general election.
