2 Hubbard teens seriously hurt in Hermitage crash

HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Police said two Hubbard teen-age girls were seriously injured when the car in which they were riding pulled into the path of a milk tanker truck on state Route 18 around 11 p.m. Sunday.
The driver of the car, Carla J. Atwood, 17, of Seifert-Lewis Road, Hubbard, pulled from Highland Road into the southbound truck's path and the truck hit the car broadside, police said.
Rescuers had to cut the top off the car to free Atwood, who was flown from the scene to a hospital in Pittsburgh, police said. They didn't know to which hospital she was taken, and no report was available on her condition this morning.
Passengers: Her front-seat passenger, Lindsay N. Quartini, 16, of Jean Drive, Hubbard, was taken to Sharon Regional Health System, Sharon, and then transferred to St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, where she was listed in critical condition this morning.
Two back-seat passengers, Darin Fair, 17, of Clarksville Road, Hermitage, and Damion Verneille, 17, of Maple Drive, Greenville, were treated at the scene for minor injuries, police said.
The driver of the tanker truck, Kristian Spohn, 27, of Butler, wasn't injured.
Police said he had just picked up a load of cream from Dean Dairy in South Pymatuning Township minutes before the crash.
